Business Travel

Love it, hate it, or it depends on the time and location. Some of us travel for business.

Before I left for a morning walk (because I couldn’t face explaining I wanted a bike for 15 minutes only) I filled the bath up with cold water.

I experienced this view

And generally experienced a feeling of well being.

I took some pictures of the pool that my kids would like and of the spare double bed that they could have tried to squeeze into. I ‘bring’ them with me by sharing the experience.

I met old colleagues and new last night, drank delicious red wine and I am looking forward to more conversation today.

Back to the question, business travel, count me in.

Do you find ways to maintain your habits and enjoy the opportunities offered by business travel? I hope so because we are so lucky!

Expectation versus reality

Exhibit A

I’m at an airport having moved seating area three times.

Why so active?

It might be nice to top up my laptop and phone before my flight, even though some short flights now have USB sockets.

None of the sockets I have tried have worked for me or the various jolly people who also tried. (apart from the girl who gently whispered fuck)

It is a good conversation opener if you are lonely.

“That doesn’t work but feel free to give it a try” Even if annoyed the sentence is received entirely warmly.

I can’t believe the inconvenience, my day is ruined.

And if the sarcasm doesn’t translate here, you’re on the wrong blog, the one you want is coming up next.

Wishing you a lovely day, brimming with working electricity sockets.

Get Smart with Money

Money

I was late to the FIRE movement. I have always been value conscious but didn’t understand the compound effect until I’m late to get the full benefit.

We are not poor. I am teaching my children the importance of saving and not using up all the planets resources.

If I could go back in time I would have put more money into investing earlier. I saved to pay off property and while this has been a good move, more investing would have been even better.

I don’t buy a lot of stuff but our monthly expenses have increased to be double what they were 10 years ago.

One of my favourite bloggers MrMoneyMustache has contributed to a new Netflix show. I haven’t watched it yet. Ideally it will inspire me to re look at our monthly expenses and try things we haven’t for a while.

Are you good with money?

Saturday morning

A view from where I am

Does Saturday feel different to the week days?

We slept downstairs so I’ve woken up next to the kitchen. It’s nice, there are lots of windows here.

On waking, I’ve been going for a short bike ride followed by a ‘cool dip’. I can’t say cold plunge because the water is ambient temperature and the lowest has been 19 degrees Celsius so far.

I bought a cheap foldable bath and put it in the garden, the cold water goes on the grass after a week.

Cool plunge is the most energising activity I have come across. Some days I go in twice. If I feel groggy after work, a quick dip and it’s like morning energy again.

I tried a cold shower and it sucked, I hated it, but a cold plunge is another level.

If I could sell the feeling it creates I’d be rich. And you can have it for free.

Wishing you a lovey Saturday, however you get started.

Long live the King

The Queen died yesterday.

You just die.

She looked happy in her last public photograph.

I hope she saw her one true love, Philip, on her journey. I believe their love is strong enough for him to take her kindly onwards.

We all go one day and I look forward to seeing my Mum to take me on my journey.

I hope you have a treasured person you will see once again.
